The Henry Backheel Flick Soccer Tutorial

Henry Backheel Flick

The Henry Backheel Flick is a spectacular soccer trick and flick up move. Thierry Henry used the Henry Backheel Flick in a commercial for Nike (watch the video). The Henry Backheel Flick is mostly used to show off.

It's possible to use the Henry Backheel Flick in a match to beat an opponent, but I don't recommend it. Henry, for example, uses the Henry Backheel Flick in the warm up for a match. The crowd loves it.

In Steps

Step 1
Put the ball on the ground and take 2 or 3 steps back.

Step 2
Run towards the ball.

Step 3
Put the middle part of the sole of your dominant foot on top of the ball. Land on your weak foot. This foot should be diagonal in front of the ball.

Step 4
Move your dominant foot quickly forward and stamp on the ground in front of the ball. The ball should now flick up.

Step 5
As the ball flicks up behind you, hit the ball with the heel of your dominant foot. The ball should now go over your head.

Tips and Advices

You can divide the Henry Backheel Flick in two parts. The first part is step 1 to step 4. The second part is step 5. This makes practicing easier.

The ball flicks up in step 4. This is the hardest part of the trick. It might be sensible to practice this part first.

In step 4, the ball should bounce off the ground and roll up your heel a bit. Look closely at 0:30 in the tutorial video. The Henry Backheel Flick is easier when you understand the movement.
