Riquelme Move

Juan Roman Riquelme showed a great soccer trick in a match for Boca Juniors. Since then, the Riquelme Move has been all over the Internet and almost every soccer fanatic has seen it.

The Riquelme Move puts your opponent on the wrong foot because the move is very unpredictable.

Tips and Advices

Don't approach your opponent too slow. A smart defender will know you're up to something.

Practice step 3 thoroughly. The ball must be exactly behind your heel.

Don't use any other (body) feints. The Riquelme Move itself is unpredictable enough.

Don't over-use the Riquelme Move. The risk of loosing the ball is pretty big, especially in the beginning.

In Steps

In this tutorial, I assume your right-footed.

Step 1
Approach your opponent slowly.

Step 2
When your within 1 meter of your opponent, slide the ball to the left by putting the sole of your right foot on the ball. This step is easier once you've mastered the Pull Back.

Step 3
Repeat step 2. Your opponent should now face your back. You turned 180 degrees in total.

Step 4
The ball should be behind your left heel. Touch the ball with this heel to get the ball past your opponent.

Step 5
Turn 180 degrees again. Run past your opponent and control the ball, continue to dribble or pass the ball.
